Welcome to The M.A.M.A & Atelier Artéfact
Thank you for your interest in our Metal Arts Academy—and for subscribing to our newsletter! We’re excited to share more about our curriculum and how you can get involved, whether you're brand new or returning to the studio.
Just Startng Out?
If you’ve never worked with metal before, our 3-hour Introductory Class is the perfect place to begin. You'll get hands-on experience in a real jewellery studio—learning to saw, file, and texture metal—and you’ll leave with your first finished piece!
If you enjoy the experience, you have two next step options:
- Take our Second Intro Class (4 hours), where you’ll make your own silver ring.
- Or, jump right into our structured program and begin your jewellery- making journey in depth.
Our Curriculum of Modules
Our classes are based on a system of modules, with each module lasting 8 weeks. Everyone begins with Module 1, then progresses through the curriculum at their own pace.
We currently offer 14 Modules, all described in detail on our website: 👉 montrealmetalart.com/program-and-schedule
Modules 1 to 4: Foundatonal Skills
These first four modules are our core training series, designed to help you build a strong base in metalwork and stone setting.
If you prefer working in wax, we offer parallel training in Wax Modules 1 to 3. Our Wax Pathway is a great alternative or complement to metalworking. Each module is also 8 weeks.
Completing all three wax modules gives you a full introduction to wax techniques, and includes some basic metal skills—so you can continue directly into Module 4 if you'd like to explore stone setting further.
What Comes Next? Choose Your Direc8on
Once you’ve completed the basics, you can tailor your learning to your creative goals: Take — Stone Setting Specialty Modules or follow our Intermediate Program.
Either way the curriculum wraps up with Module 8—an in-depth exploration of working with gold. You will learn about alloys, melting points, soldering techniques, and design considerations unique to this precious metal.
You’re welcome to complete all the modules that interest you—your path is flexible.
Pacing & Scheduling
Each module is structured to take about 8 weeks, but that can vary depending on your personal pace. Some students may need more time to complete a project, others a bit less.
In each session (Module 1, 2, 3, or 4) means you're working with a teacher to complete one module. If you continue, you’ll simply sign up for a new module in the next session.
How Classes Work
All classes include students working on different modules at the same time. Our teachers are trained to support multiple levels in a single classroom setting. That means you can take Modules 1 through 4 with the same teacher—or explore learning from different ones as you go.
Personal Projects & Advanced Learning
- Module 1 – Personal Projects, is great for beginners who want to complete the Module 1 basics and then pursue their own project ideas. - We also offer Intermediate/Advanced classes for students who have completed several modules or have at least 96 hours of training.
- Sunday Personal Projects class is open to students who have completed Module 1 and want creative studio time with a teacher.
Creative Experience (1:1 Sessions)
Looking for something more personalized? Our Creative Experience is a series of three private, 2-hour sessions with a teacher. It’s a great option for one-on-one learning—whether you’re creating an engagement ring, wedding band, or a special gift for someone you care about.
Summer Classes
In the summer, our classes run for 4 weeks instead of 8. To complete a full module, you’ll need to sign up for two — 4 week sessions.
Or you’ll complete as much as you can within those 4 weeks. When you return in the Fall, you can simply pick up where you left off.
Specialty Classes and other Workshops
We also offer specialized classes twice a year, including: — 3D Design & Printing (Rhino 8 basics)
— Enamelling & Cloisonné
— Other specialty workshops are offered seasonally —Check the Workshops section of our website for details
