From Classroom to the Red Carpet: Liwen Chen’s Exceptional Journey from the Montreal Academy of Metal Arts Studio to the Grammys

At the M.A.M.A. Studio, we are incredibly proud of our students—each one bringing curiosity, dedication, and their own creativity to the studio. Every so often, however, a student creates something remarkable and it travels far beyond our classroom walls. This year, that story belongs to Liwen Chen, whose exquisite handcrafted earrings have officially made their way to the Grammys.

A Spark of Talent in the Studio

Liwen began her project like many students do: with an idea, a sketch, and a desire to explore metal arts more deeply. Under the guidance of Head Instructor Gustavo Estrada, she shaped, soldered, polished, and perfected a design that blended craftsmanship with a strong artistic voice.

From Montreal to a High-End New York Boutique

Liwen’s, Violet Mist earrings were selected by the prestigious Atelier D’Emotion boutique in New York City—a gallery known for curating fine art jewellery from emerging and established designers around the world. Seeing a student’s creation showcased in such a respected NYC boutique is already a huge accomplishment. But Liwen’s journey was only just beginning.

Purchased by a Star—and Headed to the Grammys

Liwen’s earrings were purchased by none other than Cirie Fields—actress, reality TV icon, and beloved television personality. Known for her standout roles on shows like Survivor and Big Brother, Cirie is admired not only for her charisma and resilience, but also for her polished, statement-making personal style.

Cirie chose Liwen’s earrings to wear to the Grammy Awards, sending the student’s creation from our Montreal classroom all the way to one of the most prestigious red carpets in the world.

Her achievement is also a testament to the vibrant community at the Montreal Academy of Metal Arts, where students learn to transform raw materials into professional-grade jewelry.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Liwen Chen—not just for creating a gorgeous pair of earrings, but for inspiring all of us. Her journey shows what is possible when skill, passion, and opportunity meet.
